Afro Pearl Blue.........In the mid 60's i had the great pleasure and honor to have as musician friend and mentor. At that Time I played drum solo concerts at the Chess Mate coffee house, East Town Theater, Grande Ballroom and many Local Clubs. Mr. Bobby Bongolas. was a great percussionists already a pro who had played with Quincey Jones and Nat King. Bobby saw me at the chess mate and sat in with me, he saw i was still learning searching in Life and was talented with a lot of energy and wanted to play, thus he told me, he liked me as a person and drummer and wanted to help me reach my musician and Life goals. The first thing he did was to take me to the Detroit library and showed me a children's book of african folk arts and to a music drumming section in it. There I saw african folk rhythm in 3/4-3/4-2 which equals out to 8/4 or two Bars of 4/4/. I started playing with the concept right away. In 1967 I joined the Paul Winter Consort, what a great Journey and then the bass line for the Afro rhythm came to me. So I now had a Rhythm and Bass line to the song. in 1970 Baba asked me to go on a calif. tour and study and play drums also for the chanting and meditation part of his daly presentations with Baba Ramdas and a group of devotees which I was honored to do and it Helped change my life even lead me to his blessing of being renounced from within, and to the orthodox priest hood. At the time baba was teaching about the inner Uncreated Light that he called the blue pearl because of it's ultra violet light appearance. For a christian this is the inner Light of Spirit or Christ Energy he called the Intelligent Energy Kundalini Shakti . Upon experiencing this spirit energy Light in meditation, I left my body and could see in every direction in, out and all around at the same time. It had a cleansing effect I was home in my true Spirit and then came back to the body. This Experience was so far out when i came down to the body from the inner space i was so happy I Kissed the ground.This all lead to a deep Theosis, God realization and oneness with body Mind and Spirit. I thus wrote the song and put it to the Rhythm and bass line and Afro pearl was born.
