There, Far Away[a] (Serbian: Тамо далеко, Tamo daleko) is a Serbian folk song which was composed on the Greek island of Corfu in 1916 to commemorate the Serbian Army's retreat through Albania during World War I. It is played in triple metre and begins solemnly in a minor key before switching to the relative major of the dominant key in the third line of the first verse, symbolizing hope before returning to the tonic minor key from the beginning. The lyrics to the song come in multiple versions, all of which end with the line "long live Serbia!".

The song became very popular amongst Serbian émigrés following World War I and was even played at the funeral of Serb inventor Nikola Tesla in January 1943. A symbol of Serbian culture and national identity, it came to be viewed as a form of national anthem in the Serbian diaspora during the Cold War.

I arranged this song to fit my funk jazz world music influence. One of my great mentors was Mat Gouze and His Around the world Review. we had to play songs from every country and Tamo Daleko was one of the songs we played, Though I origenaly learned the song from master accordion master Dragomir my dad's friend. But Mat Gouze was my intro to World Music back in 1959 and through the 60'. I was able to add that world influence to recording on weather reports Sweet Nighter, Playing hand drums.
The photo is Mat Gouze and group in Yanko's Restaraunt in Dayton, Ohio, playing for Lorne Greene and the BONANZA BOYS dinner Party. Muruga still a young Steve Booker, is the third from the left.
Mat also tough a music class at Wayne State, and had students from around the world in his class also playing in the group. Thus adding a real world flavor to the group in both dance and music.
